additional remarks | The latest in-memory databases have a have a huge impact on the architecture and applications of enterprises systems. Up to now, companies use ERP systems for transactional data processing (OLTP) and data warehouse systems for reporting (OLAP). Data is copied from the ERP system to the data warehouse system in periodic batch jobs (ETL). With in-memory databases, these two worlds are growing now together, as this kind of database can support both OLTP and OLAP processing in a high-performant way. In this class you learn how in-memory technologies realize high performance data processing using efficient technologies such as row and column storage, partitioning, compression, multithreading and special indexing. In addition you will conduct practical exercises with SAP HANA, loading data into the database and analyse it with SAP Lumira tool. Furthermore, you will get in touch with SAP Predictive Analytics, the data mining tool based on HANA. Again some practical exercises will help you to understand the theoretical basis. After the lecture part with exercises, you will first work on a small homework alone, then work on a project in groups for a couple of weeks. |
