additional remarks Historically, strong interactions were explored between nuclei and nucleons, and it was discovered that all strongly interacting particles - hadrons - have a partonic substructure. Nowadays, this substructure is identified with the theoretical concept of quantum chromodynamics (QCD). Its main properties - confinement and asymptotic freedom - make it a theory with many challenges, in terms of calculating physics from first principles. Instead, the strong interaction is best approached by learning about the experimental findings and their relation to quarks and gluons. The lecture highlights ongoing research in this field.
