ergänzende Hinweise Migratory movements are one of the big challenges that modern societies face as they impact almost all policy areas – asylum systems, border protection, security, education, etc. The current refugee crisis as a distinct migratory phenomenon means that many people from war zones, who have often suffered traumatic experiences, are entering the EU, and member states have been struggling to provide these refugees with adequate physical and mental health care. Immigration processes are particularly important for health and welfare policies since they bring an influx of new recipients for measures and policies that originally were mainly designed for a homogeneous population without language barriers or cultural differences. This seminar will deal with the challenges migration poses for health care, its implications for future policy development and the impact of Europeanization processes on national health care systems. In order to provide students with a necessary basic overview of migration processes and migration policies, the seminar will start with an input on migration and asylum policy on the EU- as well as on the national level, and on the particular situation during the refugee crisis. Information on the German health care system, EU health care policy and the interaction between different stakeholders in a multi-level field will also be provided and supplied with practical examples. Finally, the students’ presentations will focus on different aspects of the issue in more detail and there will be ample room for discussion.
