| additional remarks | This course deals with Engineering Management not as kind of a theory. It discusses roles and tasks of an engineer as manager during a typical product life cycle. This practice-oriented approach shall ease the phasing-in of a graduate into his first job in industry and help to start a promising career, early leading into a management position. Main topics of the lectures (script available) are: - Industrial enterprise, e.g., goals and challenges, business processes, process management, strategy; - Products, e.g., value chain, life cycle, success factors, patents/IPR-management, standards; - Business opportunities (BO), e.g., ideas and their management of ideas, BO-Scanning, business plan, rapid prototyping; - Product management, e.g., product manager, portfolio-management, innovation, technological forecasting, Product Line Management-process, the 4Ps, liabilities; -Product provisioning, e.g., development, purchasing, market introduction, manufacturing, product evolution, service, handling of errors and change-requests; -Project Management, e.g., project manager, planning and control, contracting, risk management, SCRUM, productivity -People Management, e.g., self-management, effectiveness of individuals and teams, motivation, change management -Quality Management, e.g., Quality assurance, ISO Quality-model, quality management system, improvement techniques, business ethics. In the tutorial problems/case studies related to the lecture have to be solved by the students. The two best contributions will be presented. In the first two tutorials introductory talks are given, e.g. “How to give a good talk?” and “Have you ever thought about to found your own company?” |
