Students learn/practice "communicative functions": to pose questions to others about themselves and their families and to answer similar questions; to understand and use numbers and prices and to tell time; fundamental vocabulary concerning studying, careers, hobbies, food and eating habits; and talking about their day-to-day activities in the present and past tenses using simple sentences. Grammar: nouns (Genus and Numerus), articles, adjectives and declinations; indicative present of regular and irregular verbs; modal verbs; indicative perfect (only regular participles); question pronouns; simple and double negatives; prepositions without articles and compound prepositions; prepositions for the verbs essere/andare; object pronouns with and without emphasis; demonstrative pronouns questo/quello; indefinite pronouns molto, tanto, parecchio, poco; possessive pronouns; gerund (stare + gerundio); reflexive verbs; adverbs of time; basic numbers. Phonetics and orthography: alphabet; sound and writing; accent and pronunciation; intonation: statements, questions and exclamations.
