additional remarks Note: You can find the slides from the information event at the end of this page by clicking on additional information In this inter-semester course, student teams work on real world problems, which are provided by company partners for a company-specific innovation challenge. A project budget is provided for which the student teams are responsible. Students from different departments of TUM work together in interdisciplinary teams. Moreover, every TUM student team works with a student team from a partner university of the SUGAR network. For example, it is possible to work together with students from Stanford University, the University of St. Gallen, the Hasso Plattner Institute, the Aalto University or the Tokyo Institute of Technology. In the course, the teaching concept of “experiential learning” is applied. The students continuously learn “Design Thinking” basics in a lecture format, which they directly apply in their project. Throughout the course, students receive individual support from Design Thinking experts, scientists, and company representatives. The course “Design Thinking for Business Innovation” provides proximity to companies. Students will get insights into the business world through company visits and meetings at milestone events in which company representatives participate during the course. The seminar is offered annually as a two-semester course. It combines a practical course and a seminar for master students from various study programs. Amongst others, students of information systems, business administration, management & technology, computer science, games engineering, mechanical engineering, CDTM, physics, mathematics and electrical engineering can apply. Start of the practical course: September 2019 (WS 2019/20); End of the seminar: July 2020 (SS 2020). The advanced seminar “Design Thinking for Business Innovation 2” (IN2107, IN4891) builds upon the knowledge of the practical course. As the Design Thinking course is designed as an inter-semester format, the successful completion of the practical course requires participation in the seminar as well as the practical course “Design Thinking for Business Innovation 1” (IN2106, IN4200). Throughout the course, students will be able to present their interim results at various milestone meetings around the globe. Travel expenses will be covered. The dates are provisional and will be finalized four weeks before each event: Introduction event Design Thinking Bootcamp (September 2019), Global Kickoff in China (October/November 2019), Fall Presentations (December 2019), Design Thinking Midterm Workshop (January or February 2020), Winter Presentations (March 2020). In the last phase of the course the final prototype will be created and presented at the final presentation of the global Sugar Community in the Silicon Valley (June 2020) as well as in front of experts at the TUM (July 2020).
