additional remarks | This lecture introduces a new class of solid state materials: two-dimensional (2D) materials that are truly two-dimensional solids with a thickness of less than 1 nm with fascinating properties and high potential for novel applications. The lecture will cover a comprehensive introduction to these 2D materials and their peculiar and manifold electronic, optical and mechanical properties. The lecture gives the opportunity to learn about modern nano-fabrication and nano-analytic methods distinct to 2D materials. Excitonic, quantum, spin- and valley related phenomena as well as real device applications in the areas of electronic, optoelectronic and solar energy conversion unique to selected 2D materials will be discussed in the third part of the lecture.
