Assignment to Modules

Further Information

Courses are together with exams the building blocks for modules. Please keep in mind that information on the contents, learning outcomes and, especially examination conditions are given on the module level only – see section "Assignment to Modules" above.

additional remarks The first supercomputers of the exascale area are envisioned for around 2021. These machines will impose major challenges on simulation codes in order to run efficiently. Many challenges arise from the operation at the physical limits of the hardware and severe energy efficiency constraints. In this seminar, we will focus on the main challenges of exascale computing and discuss the approaches and building blocks for tackling these challenges. A strong focus of the seminar shall be on application and implementation of the learned concepts: all participants will be encouraged to demonstrate their presented methods and concepts via small demonstrators, which requires extensive use of the learned theory. Preliminary List of Topics: * MPI at (extreme/exa) scales * PGAS * FPGAs for HPC * Fault tolerant applications * "Exotic" HPC Hardware Architectures * Modelling vs. Automatic Tuning in HPC * Beyond MPI: New Runtime Systems for HPC * Heterogeneous Computing * High dimensional PDEs on massively parallel systems * Communication-avoiding numerical algorithms * In-situ visualization * Multi-physics at exa-scale * Grand challenge simulations
