| additional remarks | Der Dialog "Laches" gilt als eines der frühesten Werke Platons. Er stellt gleichermaßen eine Einführung in die Methode von Sokrates, in die Philosophie Platons und in das Philosophieren überhaupt dar. Ausgehend von einer Alltagssituation werden in einem Gespräch bekannter Athener - unter ihnen ist auch Sokrates - wesentliche philosophische Fragen aufgeworfen und die Zusammenhänge zwischen diesen Fragen angedeutet. So geht es vordergründig um die Frage der Eignung einer neuen Technik des Kampfes für die Ausbildung der jungen Leute in Athen, aber diese Frage ist nur zu beantworten, wenn man weiß, was Tapferkeit ist. Für diese Frage wiederum müssen zwei der Gesprächspartner als kompetente Fachleute gelten, und doch zeigt sich, dass sie die - für die Fragetätigkeit des Sokrates exemplarische - Frage nach der Tapferkeit letztlich nicht beantworten können. Hängt damit womöglich ihr späteres Scheitern im Handeln zusammen? Welche Bedeutung hat die Philosophie angesichts der Ratlosigkeit, in der die Gesprächspartner am Ende des Dialogs zurückbleiben? |
