Further Information

Courses are together with exams the building blocks for modules. Please keep in mind that information on the contents, learning outcomes and, especially examination conditions are given on the module level only – see section "Assignment to Modules" above.

additional remarks The course aims at two objectives: (i) education in frequently used techniques for software and system safety analysis and assurance, (ii) assessing this education in an experiment, in particular, a comparative study on the usefulness, effectiveness and reliability of these techniques. Students are going to be responsible for learning the given course material, actively taking part in the preparation meetings, in the tutorials on the safety analysis techniques, attending the experiment, and in the final workshop on discussion of lessons learnt. In the experiment, the students will be going to apply their knowledge gained from the course material and the tutorials to several practical examples of safety-critical technical systems. This practical course consists of four sessions: 1. a kick-off workshop where the participants are introduced to the practical course format and the work material, and where students can form teams, 2. a home preparation phase where students will read and understand the given material on several safety analysis techniques, 3. for each technique, one training and experiment day where a tutorial is being given by the course leaders including a discussion session to strengthen the knowledge gained in the home preparation phase, and where the students have to apply their knowledge to an example system and make a report about their results, 4. a wrap-up workshop where we want each participant to report about his/her understanding of one of the shown techniques and lessons learnt from the practical training and the experiment.
