Courses are together with exams the building blocks for modules. Please keep in mind that information on the contents, learning outcomes and, especially examination conditions are given on the module level only – see section "Assignment to Modules" above.
additional remarks |
Quantum bits - the elementary building blocks of the quantum computer - are sensitive to various external disturbances.
What used to be regarded as a flaw has been turned into an advantage in various applications, which employ quantum bits as sensitive measurement devices for various quantities ranging from electromagnetic fields to time and temperature.
This seminar shall give an overview of both the basic concepts of quantum sensing and the most prominent applications.
Students are expected to read current research literature and give a presentation on a subject in the following areas:
* Basics of qubit control and quantum sensing
* Atomic clocks and GPS
* Superconducting SQUID sensors, their application in sensing of currents in the brain and nanoscale imaging of solid state magnetism
* NV centers in diamond and their application as nanoscale sensors for electric fields, magnetic fields, pressure and temperature |
