Structural Dynamics

Course 849972002 in SS 2015

General Data

Course Type lecture
Semester Weekly Hours 2 SWS
Organisational Unit Chair of Applied Mechanics (Prof. Rixen)
Lecturers
Dates Fri, 10:00–11:30, MW 1250

Further Information

Courses are together with exams the building blocks for modules. Please keep in mind that information on the contents, learning outcomes and, especially examination conditions are given on the module level only – see section "Assignment to Modules" above.

additional remarks The aim of the lecture is to revise the general theory of vibration in solids and structures, understand the various analysis types (free vibrations, harmonic analysis and time response), and to have a thorough understanding of the important numerical procedures necessary to perform the modelling and simulation of real engineering problems. The main topics will be - Elastodynamics - Rayleigh-Ritz and Finite Element discretisation - Linear solvers including singular systems - Mode superposition and eigensolvers - damping models - model reduction and substructuring - modal sensitivity - time integration techniques for linear and non-linear structural models - multiphysical couplings On addition a project in MATLAB/Octave/SciLab will be given as homework and graded as part of the exam. The project will consists in building a Finite Element model of a structure and programming.
