additional remarks Principles and techniques to improve security are frameworks for the protection of computer systems against attacks. In the field it is not always clearly understood to which extent obedience of such frameworks in fact can improve security. During this practical course we’ll demonstrate well-known trouble-spots in existing computer systems (Unix/Linux) and develop creative counter measures on a basis of theoretical principles. We’ll demonstrate techniques of analysis and counter measures for classical vulnerabilities in libraries, system configurations, networks and (web )applications. As a side effect, participants will learn about principles of systems administration and configuration.
