Aliaksandr Bandarenka receives Ernst Haage Prize

Award for excellent research on chemical energy conversion

2016-12-19 – News from the Physics Department

Aliaksandr Bandarenka, TUM professor for physics of energy conversion and storage, has been awarded the national Ernst Haage Prize 2016. The Ernst Haage foundation and the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion (MPI CEC) jointly award this prize to outstanding young scientists in the field of chemical energy conversion.

The research of Aliaksandr Bandarenka (36) and his group at the Physics Department is focused on the development of new materials for energy conversion and storage devices. This includes batteries, fuel cells, electrolyzers and supercapacitors, which in turn could be useful for energy supply without CO2 emissions. In particular, Aliaksandr Bandarenka aims for a better understanding and characterization of electrified interfaces. The material design is based on a bottom-up approach using input from electrochemical surface science and starting from model surfaces. The basic research carried out by his group on model systems is crucial for the optimization of technologically relevant materials.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Ernst Haage prize, which includes an endowment of EUR 7500. The award ceremony took place within the frame of an international symposium on chemical energy conversion that took place at Schloss Broich in Mühlheim an der Ruhr, Germany.
