Changjiang Scholar Award for Peter Fierlinger

2019-12-03 – Für seine Arbeiten zur Erzeugung niedrigster Magnetfelder hat Prof. Dr. Peter Fierlinger vom Physik-Department der TUM den Changjiang Scholar Award verliehen bekommen, die höchste offizielle akademische Auszeichnung in China. Peter Fierlinger leitet die internationale PanEDM-Kooperation, an der neben der TUM auch das Institut Laue-Langevin und chinesische Wissenschaftler beteilligt sind.

What Is Inside a Neutron Star?

2018-02-27 – Professor Laura Fabbietti from TUM’s Physics Department likes strange things. In a TEDxTUM talk, that is now available on video, she explains what is strange about the hyperon puzzle, what it has to do with the state of distant neutron stars and how she wants to solve this astronomical puzzle by looking at collisions of particles underground on earth.

The weakest magnetic field in the solar system

2015-05-12 – Magnetic fields easily penetrate matter. Creating a space practically devoid of magnetic fields thus presents a great challenge. An international team of physicists has now developed a shielding that dampens low frequency external magnetic fields more than a million-fold. Using this mechanism, they have created a space that boasts the weakest magnetic field of our solar system. The physicists now intend to carry out precision experiments there.
