Further Information

Courses are together with exams the building blocks for modules. Please keep in mind that information on the contents, learning outcomes and, especially examination conditions are given on the module level only – see section "Assignment to Modules" above.

additional remarks This practical training deals with practical aspects of quantum communication. After a theoretical introduction to the topic, the students will sequentially setup up and carry out a number of linked quantum optical experiments. Thereby, they gather practical experience in handling lasers, optical components and single photon detectors as well as implementing measurement devices and control devices in the software environment LabView and carrying out quantum optical experiments. Specific experiments will be:° Efficient coupling of optical beams to fibers° Generation of single photons using non-linear optics° Demonstration of the single-photon character through HBT measurements° Generation of entangled photon pairs through non-linear optics° Demonstration of the entanglement via tests of Bell´s inequality° Quantum key distribution using the BB84 protocol° Quantum key distribution using the E91 protocol° Demonstration of photon indistinguishability as a resource towards entanglement swapping and quantum repeaters
