additional remarks Throughout human history, advances in science and technology have gone hand-in-hand with social change, from early developments in the stone to metal ages, through the industrial revolution, all the way to the digital age and beyond. In this seminar, six instructors have chosen works of literature to spark discussion and debate about the interaction between technology and society. You will be able to share your thoughts during class, as well as explore the topics in your own writing. The theme this semester is "expediting production", a phrase used as a cover explanation for the top-secret funds the US government directed toward the development of the atomic bomb in the 1940s. The reading list is as follows:"Several People Are Typing" by Calvin Kalsuke"Frankissstein" by Jeanette Winterson"The Factory" by Hiroko Oyamada"Out There" by Kate Folk (short stories) "Hiroshima" by John Hersey (non-fiction)
