Courses are together with exams the building blocks for modules. Please keep in mind that information on the contents, learning outcomes and, especially examination conditions are given on the module level only – see section "Assignment to Modules" above.
additional remarks |
Processes of surface technology allow for adaptation of the functional properties of materials surfaces. Thereby application fields can be developped which could not be realised by the mere deployment of bulk materials.
Examples are the improvement of the lifetime behaviour of chipping tools, the increase in efficiency of gas turbines or the deployment of materials under extreme plasma exposure in fusion reactors.
Contents of the course:
- basic physics of coating processes and of plasmas
- physical vapour deposition processes: evaporation, sputtering, laser ablation
- chemical vapour deposition processes
- plasma spray processes
- implantation: ion sources and plasma immersion ion implantation
- characterization methods of modified surfaces
- properties of modified surfaces
- applications
