additional remarks Mechanical, thermal and chemical requirements for materials used in Otto- and Diesel engines are provided. Current metallic materials, the related production processes and the physical limits are described. Based on this information, new material solutions and related processes are discussed with respect to their potential for product improvement and economic and ecologic demands.
