Black Hole Superradiance

The Penrose process allows bosons to extract energy from a rotating black
hole. Massive bosonic fields on the Kerr spacetime of the black hole could
form hydrogenic bound states and keep extracting energy from the black hole,
leading to Press and Teukolsky's "black hole bomb" scenario. Previous
calculations consider a single bosonic or multiple neutral bosonic
fields. After reproducing these results, variants of the superradiance
phenomenon with charged bosons or decaying bosons will be considered.

The student will become familiar with the basic concept of black holes and in
particular the Penrose process. He/she will learn the numerical method of
solving differential equations. No prior knowledge of General Relativity is
assumed.
