Content, Learning Outcome and Preconditions

Content

After gaining insight into the character/specificity of the Turkish language, students gain basic knowledge of Turkish as a foreign language, enabling them to successfully manage everyday situations while taking into consideration intercultural and cultural aspects. Students learn/practice: to ask others about themselves and their families and answer similar questions; numbers, pricing and money, telling time; to describe places and people; basic vocabulary concerning family, career, leisure time, everyday life and to report about day-to-day activities in the present tense using simple sentence structures. The course will cover requisite grammatical topics. Students will also learn strategies for more effective, efficient foreign language acquisition.

Learning Outcome

This module refers to level "A1 Basic Language Use" of the CEFR. After completing this module, students will be able to understand and use familiar, everyday expressions and very simple sentences aimed at fulfilling the concrete needs of everyday life. They can introduce themselves and others, ask others about themselves and answer similar questions. They can communicate their wants and needs to counterparts who speak clearly and slowly and are willing to help.

Learning and Teaching Methods

Course objectives will be achieved in an activity-oriented, communicative atmosphere; targeted listening, reading, writing and speaking exercises; individual, partner and group work; cooperative learning; guided self-learning with prepared (online) materials covering fundamental grammar and communication patterns in the foreign language.
