Content, Learning Outcome and Preconditions

Content

In this module, students will increase their knowledge of Spanish as a foreign language, enabling them, both orally and in writing, to deal appropriately (act and react) with topics from day-to-day life, work and the culture of Spanish-speaking countries. On the basis of texts, current news articles, etc., they will engage with the socio-cultural context of topical issues. Knowledge in these areas will be increased and elements of grammar will be reviewed and fine-tuned.

Learning Outcome

The module is aimed at level "C1 Proficient Language Use" of the CEFR. Students acquire knowledge of Spanish as a foreign language with a focus on intercultural, cultural and academic aspects. Following completion of this course, students can communicate both orally and in writing at a very high level in a wide variety of situations. They are capable of effectively and flexibly using the foreign language in study abroad as well as on the job. They can understand a broad range of longer, more demanding texts and recognize the implicit arguments. They can spontaneously and fluently express themselves without frequently and obviously searching for expressions. They can produce clear, well-structured and detailed texts on complex topics appropriately employing organizational devices and connectors.

Sound knowledge of level B2; placement test result C1.

Learning and Teaching Methods

The module consists of a seminar in which course objectives will be achieved in an activity-oriented, communicative atmosphere through listening, reading, writing and speaking exercises in individual, partner and group work, promoting collaborative learning. Controlled review of individual grammar elements through the use of guided self-learning in the form of prepared (and online) materials. Give reports following prescribed criteria; moderated (role play) discussions; independent reports and presentations on assigned topics (academic and general topics).
