Content, Learning Outcome and Preconditions

Content

n this module the basics of the Dutch language are taught so students can express themselves in everyday situations. Focus is laid upon intercultural and geographical aspects; the students learn how to ask questions about somebody else's family, how to count, to understand prices and time expressions, a basic vocabulary is created and used in easy present tense or present perfect main clauses. The teaching strategy used will enable the students to communicate in the Dutch language despite of their small vocabulary. Furthermore, tactics in order to learn the language more efficiently are shown. Differences between the Portuguese spoken in Brazil and Portugal are shown.

Learning Outcome

The lecture is aimed at level A1 of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference). Students gain basic knowledge of Portuguese with a general language orientation while taking into consideration intercultural and cultural aspects. Students acquire teamwork skills through collaborative work in multinational mixed groups. After completion of this module, students will have acquired knowledge of everyday expressions and very simple sentences aimed at fulfilling the concrete needs of everyday life. Students can introduce themselves and others, ask others about themselves and answer similar questions, give simple descriptions of their day-to-day lives and briefly describe themselves in writing. They can communicate their wants and needs to counterparts who speak clearly and slowly and are willing to help.
