Content, Learning Outcome and Preconditions


In this module, students gain basic knowledge of Italian as a foreign language, enabling them to successfully manage basic everyday situations. Student will learn strategies for communicating verbally and in writing despite limited language skills in the foreign language. Students learn/practice "communicative functions": to talk about personal experiences in past tense (simple past); to talk about situations/people and everyday activities in past tense (simple past and present perfect); to describe people; to make comparisons; to ask for advice, to give advice/directions to others; to express their wants/needs; to make hypotheses; to talk about future plans; to aks for and make suggestions; to ask for and provide information about past events; to give reasons for a decision; to use basic vocabulary on topics such as clothing and shopping habits, education and professional life. To do this, they will learn the necessary grammar.

Learning Outcome

The module refers to level A2 of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference). Students gain basic knowledge of Italian as a foreign language with a general language orientation while taking into consideration intercultural and cultural aspects. After completion of this module, students will be able to understand relevant spoken and written information on familiar topics. They can express themselves verbally and in writing on familiar topics concerning family, studies, and hobbies using key grammatical structures and an adequate but still limited vocabulary.

Learning and Teaching Methods

Learning is based on a pragmatic, communicative approach, which encourages in particular communicative competence through role playing. The inclusion of intercultural aspects gives students an awareness of cultural differences, enabling them to communicate appropriately in specific situations. Special exercises improve reading, writing and speaking skills. The module requires individual, partner and group work and includes Elearning.
