In this module, students gain basic knowledge of Italian as a foreign language, enabling them with minimal language skills to successfully manage basic everyday situations, for example in a restaurant, in public transportation, during introductions, etc. Additionally, opportunities will be made available to effectively organize the process of learning Italian as a foreign language. Students learn/practice "communicative functions": to pose questions to others about themselves and their families and to answer similar questions; to understand and use numbers and prices; fundamental vocabulary concerning studying, careers, an average day, food and eating habits; and talking about their day-to-day activities in the present tense using simple sentences.
Students will learn requisite grammar: Substantives (Genus and Numerus), articles, adjektives and their declination; indicative present of regular and irregular verbs; modal verbs; interrogative pronouns; simple and compound negation; prepositions without articles; adverbs of time; numbers. »PHONETICS AND ORTHOGRAPHY«: Alphabet; pronunciation and writing; accent and emphasis; intonatin; statement, question and command forms.
The module is aimed at level A1 of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference). Students gain basic knowledge of Italian as a foreign language with a general language orientation while taking into consideration intercultural and cultural aspects. After completion of this module, students will be able to use and understand everyday expressions and very simple sentences (orally and in writing). They can introduce themselves and others, ask others about themselves and answer similar questions, give simple descriptions of their day-to-day lives and briefly describe themselves in writing.

Learning and Teaching Methods
Learning is based on a pragmatic, communicative approach, which requires in particular communicative competence through role playing. The inclusion of intercultural aspects gives students an awareness of cultural differences, enabling them to communicate appropriately in specific situations. Special exercises improve reading, writing and speaking skills. The module requires individual, partner and group work and includes Elearning.
