Content, Learning Outcome and Preconditions


The module introduces on one hand into the technical french and on the other hand prepares the students for the exchange studies in a francophone country by means of discussing different aspects of the culture and the society of the host country. This improves both intercultural competence and the performance for the stay abroad. The following topics will be covered: - specialist terms for selected study relevant topics. - exercises and application of the acquired skills in relevant interactive contexts: small oral presentations of the students and discussions with all participants of the course. - training the awareness of intercultural aspects. - extending the capacity to act in French as a foreign language in complex communication situations with strong technical terminology. - development of reading competences of scientific and specialist texts. - development of listening strategies. - introduction into the praxis of written academic texts. - in order to consolidate the written and oral skills, selected parts of grammar will be repeated and deepened.

Learning Outcome

The module is oriented at the level ‘B2-C1’ of the GER, but also depending on the state of knowledge of the students. At the end of the module the students can communicate in french on an very high level in different situations in both oral and written manner. The students are able to use the French language in a flexible and efficient manner during they stay abroad in course of the exchange studies as well as later in work life. Despite the small module size, the required and expected skills and knowledge stated in the qualification profile of the master ‘nano science and catalysis’ are extensively covered with this workload.

Acquiring contents in a communicative and action oriented manner, specific listening, reading, writing and speaking exercises; individual, partner and group work; stimulation of cooperative learning. Revision of particular aspects of grammar with given online materials. Reporting with given criteria; moderated (roll-) discussions; reporting and presenting of scientific and overall societal contents with given topics.

Description of exams and course work

Aktive Teilnahme; schriftliche Abschlussklausur (keine Hilfsmittel erlaubt). In der schriftlichen Prüfung werden die in der Modulbeschreibung angegebenen Inhalte geprüft. Freiwillige Hausaufgaben zur Vor- und Nachbearbeitung festigen das Gelernte.
