Content, Learning Outcome and Preconditions
Content
In this module, knowledge of French as a foreign language will be further developed, enabling students to communicate with a native speaker actively and with a certain degree of fluency on topics of general interest or in familiar specialist areas and to argue a point understandably. In order to consolidate speaking and writing skills, certain French grammatical structures will be reviewed and extended. This module offers a cross-section of contemporary French culture, in which social tendencies, as reflected in newspaper articles, and radio and television programs, will be discussed. Topics suggested by students for examination are welcome. Students must independently prepare and deliver a short presentation on a cultural, social or scientific topic connected with France and then answer questions afterward.
Learning Outcome
The module is aimed at level B2-C1 of the CEFR, depending on the level of the student's knowledge. Students acquire knowledge of French as a foreign language at the standard language level with a focus on intercultural, cultural and academic aspects. Following completion of this module, students can report on texts in detail and coherently, summarize information, describe their impressions, and defend their positions. They can describe the content of texts, discussions, or television programs and offer their opinions. They are capable of spontaneously and fluently expressing themselves, without obviously having to search for words. Students can communicate clearly and in a structured fashion, both orally and in writing, on many topics in their areas of interest or specialization.
Preconditions
Sound knowledge of Level B.1; placement test result B.2.
