Content, Learning Outcome and Preconditions

In this module, students gain basic knowledge of French as a foreign language, enabling them to successfully manage basic everyday situations with minimal language skills, e.g introducing themselves and others; talking about free-time activities; asking for information and for directions; shopping. Grammar topics include: present tense of regular and irregular verbs; personal pronouns; definite, indefinite and partitive articles; questions; and adjective declension. Moreover, opportunities will be made available for students to more effectively organize the process of learning French as a foreign language and thus to improve their own learning abilities.

Learning Outcome

The module is aimed at level A1 "Elementary Language Use" of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference). Students gain basic knowledge of French as a foreign language with a general language orientation while taking into consideration intercultural and cultural aspects. After completion of this module, students will be able to ask and answer questions about familiar topics. They can interact in a simple fashion, provided that their counterpart speaks slowly and clearly and is willing to help; they can briefly describe themselves in writing.
