Content, Learning Outcome and Preconditions


Authentic texts and case studies from the fields of business and economics form the basis of the course and exercises. Topics covered include: Advertising; Tourism; Brands, Organization, Change and Money. Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking skills will be practiced in classroom activities relating to these topics. Grammar and vocabulary building form part of the core of each topic module.

Learning Outcome

To enable students to: a) expand general and specialized business vocabulary b) enhance general communicative and grammatical competence c) gain confidence in discussing and arguing business topics d) produce a written business report in appropriate format, style and register


Students should have a minimum course entry level equivalent to CER C1

a) Students will be expected to complete weekly written homework as well as a longer written assignment (business style report) during the course b) Classroom activities will be planned around topic areas and will incorporate pair work and group work c) Tutorial support will be provided following draft submission of written assignment

Module Exam

Description of exams and course work

Class Participation (including Written Homework Assignments, In-Class Writing) 25%; Brief Presentation and/or Writing Assignment (to be revised) 25%; Final Written Examination 50%. Regular attendance and active participation in class are required.
