Content, Learning Outcome and Preconditions
Content
In this module grammatical forms are reviewed and practiced with a focus on ethical issues of management. The module includes opportunities for students to practice both written and oral communication needed in professional life, with emphasis on career skills such as decision making, negotiation and intercultural communication. Through actual case studies, the student will explore what the public and stakeholders expect of a company's management, see where ethics at various levels have been compromised and what subsequent consequences for the companies and individuals are involved.
Learning Outcome
After completion of this module students can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognize implicit meaning; they can express themselves fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions; they can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes and they can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organizational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices. Students will be able to answer such questions as: What is business ethics? Who are the stakeholders? Why may good ethical practices not always be adhered to and what are the potentials?
Preconditions
Ability to begin work at the C1 level as evidenced by a placement test score in the range of 60 – 80 percent. (Please check current announcements as the exact percentages may vary each semester.)
