Learning Outcome

Once they have successfully participated in the modular courses, students are able to
• define the terms introduced in the subject areas of mechanics, electricity, magnetism and optics
• explain the significance of and the propositions involved in the treated mathematical equations
• apply these in assignments to solve new physics problems
They have acquired a more in-depth knowledge and understanding of the fundamental concepts in experimental physics, which is based both on theoretical considerations and experimental observations.

Learning and Teaching Methods

This module includes a lecture with demonstration experiments in which the fundamental concepts of experimental physics are communicated in theory and illustrated in practice. In the associated assignments, the contents of the lecture are applied using problem solving and examples of applications. The students prepare for this following their own individual methods and work on these assignments before the tutorial. In the tutorials, which are supervised by tutors, the solutions to the assignments are presented and discussed.

Module Exam

Description of exams and course work

The learning outcomes of the module are tested in a 90-minute written test. The student's understanding of the fundamental concepts of experimental physics is tested using open questions and questions with predefined multiple answers; the test also includes applied examples that must be resolved analytically. The following aids are permitted: calculator, handwritten list of formulas (a maximum of 1 A4 page, handwritten on two sides, also known as a cheat sheet).
