Content, Learning Outcome and Preconditions

Content

The lecture covers computer-aided data analysis with special with special emphasis on methods used in high-energy hadron reactions. are used. This includes first the approach to experimental data sets whose size is in the petabyte range and requires correspondingly efficient reconstruction and filtering algorithms. In addition, the acceptance of the measurement apparatus plays a major role, whose consideration in the data analysis is treated in detail. Here, the knowledge of Monte Carlo simulation of multidimensional random distributions will be deepened. As an example, data from the COMPASS experiment at CERN are used as an example, and the program package "root" (root.cern.ch) will be used. The lecture will cover topics similar to those in the winter term "Computational Data Analysis in Nuclear and Particle Physics", but with a different emphasis but has a different focus, especially with respect to simulation methods. It is designed independently from the content of the WS lecture, so that both continuation as well as new entry is possible. The level of previous knowledge of the will be taken into account in any case.
