Responsible coordinator of the module PH1494 is Katharina Krischer.
Content, Learning Outcome and Preconditions
Content
In addition to the physical aspects of energy conversion and storage, a successful conversion of the energy economy from fossil fuels to 100% regenerative energy depends on many other factors: availability of resources, efficient production, storage and transport options, requirements for electricity and distribution networks, and not finally also an acceptable economic efficiency. Particular attention is paid to aspects of environmental pollution and CO2 balancing, as well as life cycle considerations of the various renewable energy sources.
The seminar topics are based on individual chapters of the book "Sustainable Energy - without the hot air" by David J.C. MacKay. Based on this, independent research into further literature is required for a comprehensive treatment of the respective topic. The lectures and their discussion will be held in English.
Learning Outcome
After participation in the Module the student is able to:
- Perform bibliographical searches on published papers and in the internet for information relevant to specific topic
- Finding scientific papers online
- Condense their knowlegde into a presentation and obtain presentation skills
- Obtain a deeper insight into dependencies and constraints important for the transformation of the energy economy into a renewable energy system
Preconditions
No specific requirements.
