Plasmaphysics and Fusion Research
Module PH1326
Basic Information
PH1326 is a semester module in German or English language at Master’s level which is offered every semester.
This module description is valid to SS 2014.
If not stated otherwise for export to a non-physics program the student workload is given in the following table.
Total workload | Contact hours | Credits (ECTS) |
---|---|---|
120 h | 40 h | 4 CP |
Responsible coordinator of the module PH1326 is Philipp Lauber.
Content, Learning Outcome and Preconditions
Content
The Ssminar consists of talks by students on topics from the following areas:
Fundamentals of Plasma Physics: Plasmacharacteristika, plasmas in local thermodynamic equilibrium, elastic collisions and conductivity of plasmas, magnetized plasmas, magnetohydrodynamics ...
Technical plasmas: light sources, surface processing, space propulsion
Plasmas in fusion research: fusion reactions, magnetic confinement of fusion plasmas, the elements of a fusion reactor and methods for measuring plasma parameters: measurement of electron density and temperature, optical emission spectroscopy, laser spectroscopy
Learning Outcome
After successful participation in the module the student can
use the basic methods of literature retrieval, condense their knowlegde from scientific papers into a presentation and obtain presentation skills.
They have learned about different aspects of plasma physics.
Preconditions
keine Vorkenntnisse, die über die Zulassungsvoraussetzungen zum Masterstudium hinausgehen

Learning and Teaching Methods
The learning outcomes of this module will be developed through the literature search, the study of literature, the preparation of the presentation, the discussion with the teacher, the talk itself and answering questions about it.
Media
Presentation materials, complementary literature
Literature
Specialized literature to the individual topics of the seminar talks will be provided;
in addition students make an own literature search.
