Content, Learning Outcome and Preconditions

Content

In the first half of the research phase, students have learned the state of the art in their chosen research field and have planned a project for the Master's thesis.
In the Master’s Thesis they apply the acquired knowledge and perform the project. In the written report, the methods chosen for the project and the results obtained are described and discussed in the context of the state of the art of the scientific field.

Learning Outcome

After the Master's thesis, the students are able to independently solve a problem in the field of Biophysics under scientific guidance and within a set deadline, and to summarize it in a scientific paper.

They know how to apply their theoretical and /or experimental knowledge to the given problem in order to obtain results.. They are able to describe their own scientific results and to classify them in terms of their importance in the subject area.

Guidance on scientific work, independent study of literature, realization of a scientific project, independent performing of scientific experiments or theoretical calculations, discussion of the results with the supervisor and staff, writing the Thesis.

Description of exams and course work

Within a period of 6 months, a scientific project will be performed and presented in a scientific paper. Two high school teachers evaluate the Thesis. Formal and content evaluation points are, among others,

  • the structure of the Thesis
  • Thematic introduction and presentation of the state-of-the-art
  • the correct representation of the theoretical basis
  • the description of students own approach
  • the description of the scientific results of the work
  • the presentation of own results in relation to preparatory work
  • the quality of the scientific discussion of the results
  • the selection and the quality of the figures
  • the linguistic quality of the work
  • the selection and completeness of the references
  • the contribution of own scientific ideas
  • independence in performance of the work
