Content, Learning Outcome and Preconditions

Content

Advanced experiments dealing with different topics from the research area of Biomedical Engineering and Medical Phyisics are carried out. The subjects of the experiments correspond to the research areas of the different institute from the physics department and the Munich School of BioEngineering. The topic of lab course experiments can be freely choosen.

Learning Outcome

After the successful participation in the module the student is able to:

  • prepare self-dependently for a scientific experiment
  • operate a complex experimental setup and carry out a scientific experiment
  • record all important data during measurement
  • evaluate the obtained data and write a scientific report which fulfils the fundamental requirements of a scientific publication

Preconditions

No preconditions in addition to the requirements for the Master’s program.

Learning and Teaching Methods

The lab course is carried out in groups of maximum 3 participants. The groups are working self-dependently as far as possible. A supervisor supports the group in case that questions or problems arise.

Description of exams and course work

Das Modul Physikalisches Fortgeschrittenenpraktikum Biomedical Engineering and Medical Physics wird als Studienleistung erbracht. Hierzu muss ein Einzelversuch aus dem zugehörigen Katalog erfolgreich durchgeführt werden.

Die Bewertung der Laborleistung (bestanden/nicht bestanden) erfolgt durch die jeweiligen Betreuenden, wobei das Erreichen der angestrebten Lernergebnisse im Fokus der Bewertung liegt. Beispielsweise wird also darauf geachtet, ob sich die Studierenden weitgehend selbständig auf das Thema des physikalischen Experiments vorbereitet haben, ob sie in der Lage waren unter Anleitung einen komplexen Versuchsaufbau zu bedienen und ein physikalisches Experiment durchzuführen, ob sie alle wichtigen experimentellen Daten während des Versuchs dokumentiert haben oder ob sie in der Lage waren, die gewonnen Daten auszuwerten und einen den wissenschaftlichen Ansprüchen genügenden Bericht zu verfassen.

Exam Repetition

The exam may be repeated at the end of the semester. There is a possibility to take the exam in the following semester.
