Learning Outcome
Upon completion of the module the students are capable
- to understand the structure of power supply in dependance of the techological, economical and political framework
- of applying their knowledge of the grid structures upon possible innovations and future requirements
- to analyse the usage of multiple models of regulating power grids
- of evaluating the risks exisiting for a reliable supply with power
- to create own ideas on the possibilites for future changes in the energy systems based on the risks and basic conditions

Learning and Teaching Methods
The topics of the lecture will be conveyed based on PowerPoint presentations, explaining in detail the fundamentals of the current structure of power grids as well as the related technical, economic and political conditions for security of supply. Maps, overview plans and illustrations of real plants are presented for this purpose. Furthermore, theoretical and applied regulatory models are presented and explained in the context of supply risks and possible future innovations. The PDF files of the PowerPoint presentations, which are provided in advance via moodle, serve as a basic framework for the lecture, which is supplemented by writings on the board. By completion of their own documents during the lectures, the students can effectively reinforce the contents of the lecture.

Module Exam
Description of exams and course work
The exam is held orally and has a duration of about 30 minutes per candidate. Herewith the students demonstrate, that they have understood the the technological fundamentals of power grids. Furthermore the students show their capability to recognise, apply and estimate the requirements, risks and possibilities of regulation and economic incentives for electrical energy grids and markets. Thereby they show that they are aware of the current state as well as future developments. Moreover the understanding of different approaches for regulating grids will be tested and hereby the possibilities and restrictions of influencing future developments by the regulator.
Exam Repetition
There is a possibility to take the exam in the following semester.
