Content, Learning Outcome and Preconditions

Content

"This module extends the knowledge from the modules Aerodynamics of Aircraft I/II about the treatment of unsteady processes induced by flow and by motion, as well as the fundamental illustration and analysis of the related aerodynamic parameters. The connected phenomena are determining the flight envelope and are directly connected to aero elastic and structural questions. Contents:
- Relevance of unsteady aerodynamics
- Characteristics of unsteady aerodynamic forces
- Dimensionless parameters and similitude laws
- Unsteady aerodynamic coefficients related to flight mechanics and aeroelasticity
- Basic equations of unsteady inviscid gas dynamics, potential flows
- Integral form of the wing flow: Pulsating wing (thickness problem), oscillating wing (lift problem)"

Learning Outcome

"After successful participation in the module, the student is able to:
- differentiate the cause of unsteady flow
- characterize aeroelastic phenomena by means of occurring kind of forces
- define the dimensionless parameters of unsteady aerodynamics
- demonstrate the determination of unsteady coefficients of flight mechanics and aeroelasticity
- explain the fundamental approaches of the unsteady lifting surface theory
- apply the modeling on the basis of the unsteady source solution
- determine the unsteady derivatives by means of the unsteady lifting surface theory for basic problems"

Module Exam

Description of exams and course work

The examination consists either of a written or an oral exam depending on the number of participants. By means of this exam the candidate needs to show, that he/she is able to work on problems taken from the contents of this module in limited time and without auxiliary means. The exam spans all subjects, which are presented in the module.

Exam Repetition

There is a possibility to take the exam in the following semester.
