Content, Learning Outcome and Preconditions

Content

The main goal of the lecture is the communication of basic working and problem solving methods for the successful development of products. Building on basic methods (black box, score evaluation, abstraction…) important industrial applied methods (QFD, morphology, contradiction methods…) can be communicated exemplarily. Starting with the system engineering way of thinking the focus of the lecture lies on task clarification, solution identification (intuitively and systematic) as well as the evaluation of alternatives and the selection of solutions. In addition methods for the effective and efficient control of development processes are described.

Learning Outcome

You understand the single steps which are necessary for the development of products. You are able apply different procedural models, basic design principles and methods efficient and effective for the development of products. You are able to plan, design, analyze, evaluate and improve products. You know the main requirements, boundary conditions and influencing factors which can appear during product development. You are able to transfer the learned knowledge (procedural models, methods etc.) on other problems.

Preconditions

The knowledge of "Principles of Engineering Design and Production Systems" is recommended.
