Content, Learning Outcome and Preconditions


Seminar talks by students and staff on current topics in the field of photonic quantum technologies.

Learning Outcome

After successful participation in the module the students have learned all the tools necessary to become acquainted with new research directions in the area of photonic quantum technologies. They have developed the skills to analyze articles in leading journals, to critically evaluate them, and to present their content in oral presentations.


No specific prerequisites. The lecture "Photonic Quantum Technologies" is recommended

Learning and Teaching Methods

In weekly seminar talks current research topics will be discussed. During the semester, each student will give one presentation on a topic assigned in the beginning of the semester. Regular meetings with the teaching personnel are used to discuss question and background information, and will ensure a good preparation for the scientific report and oral presentation.

Module Exam

Description of exams and course work

In the course of the seminar each student individually prepares a short scientific report on a topic of current research which he/she is assigned in the beginning of the semester. The main results are presented in an oral presentation (ca. 20 minutes) and subsequently discussed (ca. 10 minutes).

Final grade:
- scientific report 50%
- presentation and discussion 50%

Exam Repetition

There is a possibility to take the exam in the following semester.
