Content, Learning Outcome and Preconditions

Content

The module introduces simulation tools and methods useful for describing quantum mechanical effects in nanoscale device simulation. Topics covered range from the numerical solution of the Schrödinger equation to quantum transport simulation.

Learning Outcome

After successful completion of the module the students of this module are able to
- understand common methods for simulating quantum effects in nanoelectronics
- use related basic algorithms
- remember commercial simulation tools

Preconditions

Basic physical concepts, materials, electronic devices
Folgende Module sollten vor der Teilnahme bereits erfolgreich absolviert sein:

Learning and Teaching Methods

Als Lernmethode wird zusätzlich zu den individuellen Methoden des Studierenden eine vertiefende Wissensbildung durch Durchführung von Computerübungen in Einzel- und Gruppenarbeit angestrebt.

Als Lehrmethode wird in den Vorlesungen Frontalunterricht gehalten, in den Übungen interaktiver Arbeitsunterricht (Aufgaben rechnen, Computerübungen).

Description of exams and course work

During an oral exam students discuss quantum effects and thee possibilities to simulate such effects with the lecturer.
