Content, Learning Outcome and Preconditions

Content

Cell based assays are increasingly important for clinical, pharmaceutical and toxicological research. This lecture is about strategies for in-vivo/ex-vivo monitoring,micro-optic and micro-electric sensors used for cell monitoring, requirements for life support systems, automation, management of data and regulatory standards. Examples for applications and ethical issues are also treated.

Learning Outcome

At the end of the module students are able to understand the specific engineering requirements encountered in the monitoring of live cells and live tissues and to evaluate critically the presented devices and methods.

Physics; basic skills in hardware and software engineering
