Content, Learning Outcome and Preconditions

Content

Approaches to nanotechnology: bottom-up vs. top-down. Characterization and fabrication issues in the nanoscale. Applications of nanotechnology in electronics, optoelectronics, telecommunications, medicine, biology, mechanics and robotics. Overview of nanotechnology programs in USA, Japan and Europe. Economical implications of nanotechnology: R&D in Information-Technology-oriented industries, new start-up companies, venture capitals. As part of the module small projectswill be assigned, selected from a list of topics covering both experimental, computational and economical topics.

Learning Outcome

The course aims at providing an introduction to nanotechnology,
and the application in several fields such as e.g. chemistry,medicine, energy, materials, automotive.
Coverning the basis of nanostructures and nanosystems.
