additional remarks Microfluidics refers to the science and engineering of systems in which fluid behavior differs from conventional flow theory primarily due to the small length scale of the system. Thus, the key feature of microfluidic devices is the use and the manipulation of small fluid amounts (10 nano to 10 atto liter) in channel structures with dimensions of tens to hundreds of micrometers. First successes in this field were the development of a gas chromatograph based on a silicon chip and the development of an inkjet printer. In this lab course you will produce and operate a microfluidic device. This device will be used to conduct a diffusion experiment, from which the diffusion constant of FITC in agarose can be calculated.
