||Battery storage systems are used in notebooks, mobile phones and increasingly in the future also in battery electric vehicles and as stationary storage systems for renewable energies. In order to provide a long lifetime and safe operating the storage systems must be operated correctly. Battery system technology builds the base for correct handling of battery storage systems. This includes, among others, the right charging method, monitoring of states and battery parameters as well as the circuitry of single cells to battery modules and packs and dealing with the safety and probability of failure of these systems.
In the context of the lecture, the required methods will be developed and then applied within the exercises. The basic methods will initially be phrased independently of technology and will then be illustrated for today’s relevant storage technologies Li-ion, NiMH and Lead-acid batteries.
