additional remarks Designing a new jet engine is a great challenge for engineers and engine manufacturers. New principles of design and construction tools must be combined with mature technology to guarantee all the requirements. The lecture gives an overview over: Design Criteria and Characteristics of Aircraft Piston Engines; Basics, Design Criteria and Characteristics of Gas Turbine Engines; Historical Development and Influences of Gas Turbine Engine Design; Safety and Durability, Certification Tests, Failure anf Fatigue Mechanisms, Strength Calculation, Blade Design, Blade-Disc-Connection, Discs and Rings, Blade Oscillations; Engine Frame and Structure, Materials - Construction and Coating Materials; Components, Rotors and Bearings;
