M.Sc. in Applied and Engineering Physics
The Master of Science in Applied and Engineering Physics (AEP) is a two-year international graduate programme, designed to give students insight into current research trends and new developments in modern physics.
Technical details
Tuiton fee ................................................ € 542 per semester
Curriculum
Our AEP master programme aims to engage highly motivated students with an above-average performance. This programme enables students to tailor their studies individually according to their aspirations and to ensure excellent compentence in advanced science and technology. The spectrum of courses is very broad, reflecting the scientific profile of TUM‘s Physics Department and thereof ensuring the students cutting-edge topics and first-hand information on current developments.
Advanced studies
The first year of the programme contains an advanced theoretical physics course, 6 elective courses on specialised topics in modern physics, an advanced lab course and a student seminar. Additionally, there are elective courses from the fields of mathematics, informatics, chemistry and engineering and an open catalogue of soft skills.
Research phase
The second year of the programme is devoted to the master thesis, including practical training in a laboratory in the Physics Department or at one of the adjunct institutes located on the TUM Campus Garching and Munich.
A detailed sketch of the curriculum can be found here.
International & social dimension
The AEP master not only offers its students to study in an international environment, with many lecturers and classmates coming from abroad, but offers them as well a wide range of social and cultural activities:
- International Café monthly gathering
- TUMinternational regular meetings and excursions
- TUM mentoring from alumni to students
- A variety of language courses
- TU film (in German)
- University orchestras and choirs
- University sport facilities
- Munich's museums, libraries, theatres, concert halls, literary events, cinema shows and many more!
Application procedure
A detailed description of the application procedure can be found in the application site.
Basic requirements
- A bachelor degree or an equivalent degree in physics
- TOEFL or IELTS test results
Online application and deadline
Details on the application procedure can be found under www.ph.tum.de/msc. Deadlines for application are May 31 for the winter semester (recommended), December 31 for the summer semester.
Career opportunities
Some professional fields recruiting the programme graduates are:
- Energy science - takes into account the enormous public interest in energy problems arising from the fact that the future of national and world-wide economy depends on the availability of sufficient primary energy.
- Material science - is key for the development of new technologies in fast-changing fields such aas medicine, communication and transportation.
