International Affairs
To the role model of the TUM, it belongs to promote scientific exchange and world openness. Thereof, we support stays of our students abroad, in particular through our extended number of exchange programmes with worldwide renowned universities.
In the same spirit, it is for us just as important to welcome and well care for the international students at the TUM. Thus, we receive each year an increasing number of exchange students as well as international master students.
Information from the Physics Department
Fellow programme
A great opportunity to get in contact with international exchange students is through the Fellow programme of the Physics Department. To look after an exchange student makes you aware of the experience and gives you extra points when applying yourself for a exchange programme to go abroad.
Go international
Either if you want to go abroad for one or two semesters, pursue a joint degree with another institution, do an internship for six months or take a one-week intensive course – at the TUM we support you and offer you a possibility for each of these cases. However, to have a successful experience abroad and make the most of it, you have to start preparing it on time. This applies on one side to learning the language, but also for your application. Consider that for stays outside Europe, you should start informing yourself at least 1,5 to 2 years in advance!
Infos about studying abroad from BAföG – Aktuell.
Tips for outgoings
If you are either preparing your application or have been already selected in one of our exchange programmes, here you will find all the relevant information and necessary documentation.
Incomings
All about living in Munich and studying in the TUM for international students. This goes from the selection of courses, learning German and the administrative as well as practical support from other TUM students to housing search, excursions and cultural programme.
International Café
This is a project jointly organised by the faculties of Infomatics, Mathematics and Physics. Once per month we meet to learn about and discuss different topics in a cosy atmosphere. The International Café is open to all TUM students: no matter if permanently residing in Germany, just coming for an exchange programme or being an international full-time student.
TUM international (TUMi)
TUMi offers Orientation Weeks before the beginning of academic activities and regular meetings throughout the year. They also support you in administrative affairs (residence permit, enrolment, public transport, etc.) and offer you a cultural programme to get to know Munich and its surrondings. Remember to register well in advance for the activities to ensure you a place.
